Summary I am an experienced Windows systems administrator (MCITP - Windows Server Administrator 2008) and network engineer with over 17 years of experience working in the marine communications, retail and email service provider industries. I am a highly motivated individual who prides himself on completing tasks to the highest standard possible. I enjoy working on projects that involve the designing, planning, implementation and or improving of network infrastructure, and is an area that I would like to continue to work in and to develop more. Present Employment January 2008 - Present COMMUNICATOR CORP (Part of Trinity Mirror Group PLC), Houghton le Spring.
Lead Windows Systems Administrator for a leading global enterprise email management company, providing technology based solutions, strategy and expertise for email communications.

Responsible for the high availability of systems, servers and related components and the security of the business applications.

ARCHITECTURE & IMPLEMENTATION

  • Design and implement server architecture for improved operational resiliency and performance.
  • Design and implement server architecture for sister companies within the Leighton Group.
  • Create secure base workstation and server builds designed to ensure the security of the company.
  • Currently working on a project to obtain the ISO 27001 certification for Communicator Corp, this allows me to work in all aspects of the business from implementing secure desktop and remote access to secure server configurations all the way through to working on business continuity.
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
  • Windows system administration, system monitoring (MRTG/SNMP/Advanced Host Monitor), Hyper-V virtualisation, automated infrastructure deployment (Windows Deployment Services) & consolidation, scripting, Firewall configuration and administration, switch configuration, out of hours on-call cover.
  • Play a central role in administering the company's Software as a Service application, I maintain the company's infrastructure to support the sending of over 200 million emails a month which involves supporting and configuration of SonicWall NSA E6500 firewalls, dell switches, anti-virus deployments and updates and Dell servers.
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the company network by making sure anti-virus and security updates are installed on servers through the use of Microsoft Windows Update Services.
  • Provide out of hours and weekend support on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Help to support and maintain the infrastructure for Leighton Group, SaleCycle and Workcast

Work Experience October 2005 - January 2008 SCS UPHOLSTERY, Sunderland
Application Specialist. Key functions:
  • Maintain the continuous updates of security patches on servers and workstations via the use of Microsoft's WSUS server, thus enabling all workstations and servers to be updated within 24 hours of critical security updates.
  • Worked with over 60 servers and 1500 workstations on a national basis and help to support the day to day running of the IT infrastructure, this involves building and repairing of equipment as needed.
  • Provided technical support to the group's nation wide branches as needed through the company helpdesk, as well as maintaining and supporting the company's ISA server.
  • Supported and maintained the company's Microsoft Exchange 2003 server; thus resolving any problems that may arise as quickly as possible. This also included the company's enterprise Blackberry server and services.
  • Provided out of hours and week end support on a tri weekly basis. Made sure Anti-Virus updates are applied to all servers and computers. Helped to roll out new IT equipment to new shop fit, this involves driving down to locations, and installing computers, routers and switches.
Work Experience July 2001 - July 2004 A-N-D GROUP, North Shields
IT Coordinator and manager. Key functions:
  • Maintained the continuous running and supporting of the Windows NT / Windows 2000 networks which run on a mixture of Dell PowerEdge 2450 and 4400 servers. Servers include MS Exchange 5.5, MS Exchange 2000, MS SQL 2000 and Citrix Metaframe Xpa servers, which allow our customers to send / receive their email / fax and telexes anytime of the day.
  • Produced and maintained the company IT documentation, including policies and inventories to contribute to the company ISO compliancy.
  • Tested and repaired the ANDcrewcall system, which is a mobile satellite communication system that allows the ship's crew to make voice calls, send emails etc. Testing involved the testing of voice and data communication via satellite and producing test / repair documentation as well as repairing any problems diagnosed.
  • Provided 24hr support to all sites and remote VPN office users, trained staff on how to use office and Windows applications and general computer and network usage. Provided 2nd level support on various satellite messaging services to customers when 1st level support was unavailable.
